A stir plate I constructed using a computer fan, old phone charger, nuts and bolts, plexiglass, and a lab/food grade stir bar. This was needed in order to try to brew a low carbohydrate India pale ale. The higher yeast population, along with temperature control and the use of alpha-galactosidase(an enzyme that converts complex carbohydrates into simple carbohydrates that are fermentable), allow for a greater fermentation, resulting in less residual sugars and carbohydrates overall.
